Project manager arrested for attempting to burn RM1 million in cash during MACC raid

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers discovered a construction company project manager attempting to destroy evidence during a Thursday raid at his Petaling Jaya residence. The suspect grabbed bundles of cash and set them ablaze when authorities arrived to investigate alleged corruption related to a data centre tender. Officers found thick smoke filling the bathroom where nearly one million ringgit in burned banknotes lay scattered. The raid also revealed additional cash totaling 7.5 million ringgit hidden inside pillow boxes throughout the home.

Investigators seized luxury timepieces from Rolex, Omega, and Cartier brands along with various jewelry pieces and gold coins. Deputy Chief Commissioner Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the incident and warned that evidence destruction carries penalties up to seven years imprisonment under Penal Code Section 201. The primary investigation continues under Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act sections addressing bribery and corporate liability for corruption offenses.
