Prosenjit Chatterjee masters guerrilla warfare tactics

Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee discussed his role in Devi Chowdhurani, which depicts Bhavani Pathak as a spiritual sage and freedom fighter who pioneered guerrilla warfare tactics against British colonial forces. Chatterjee explained that his preparation process involved studying historical records, societal structures, and jungle survival methods from that era. The character spoke Sanskrit and Bengali while understanding English and French, and he taught resistance fighters how small groups could overcome numerically superior British troops.

Pathak's reputation struck fear among colonial administrators whenever his name surfaced. The film adapts Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's novel and explores the duality of a learned person who combined moral principles with revolutionary action. Chatterjee said he researched extensively to portray naturally how an educated individual could transition between spiritual teachings and military strategy.
