Proteas Choose to Bat First in Landmark Bulawayo Test as Chevrons Seek Revival

Zimbabwe hosts South Africa at Queens Sports Club for their first Test cricket match in nearly ten years. The teams last played a Test match in 2017 at Port Elizabeth. South Africa has dominated the series history between these nations. The Proteas have won eight matches against Zimbabwe with one draw recorded.

South Africa arrives as the defending World Test Championship winners from their recent victory over Australia. Captain Keshav Maharaj leads a young team with three players making their Test debuts. Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Dewald Brevis and Codi Yusuf will earn their first caps. The visitors selected four fast bowlers and one spinner for this match.

Zimbabwe welcomes back Nick Welch to their starting lineup for this home series. Takudzwanashe Kaitano will open the batting alongside Brian Bennett. Captain Craig Ervine and Sean Williams anchor the middle order. Tafadzwa Tsiga keeps wicket at number seven in the batting order.

Maharaj won the coin toss and decided his team would bat first on Saturday morning. The South African captain praised the hard work from coaches in preparing the squad. Ervine expressed satisfaction with bowling first and mentioned recent preparation time helped his players. Both captains acknowledged the significance of this rare meeting between the African cricket powers.
