Punjab extends Section 144 ban on gatherings for seven days

Punjab authorities extended emergency restrictions for another week on Saturday, November 15, prohibiting public demonstrations, political gatherings, and assemblies of four or more individuals throughout the province. The Home Department cited security concerns and terrorist threats as justification for maintaining the measures, warning that large crowds could become targets for attacks or venues for activities undermining state security.

The restrictions ban weapons displays, loudspeaker use except for religious purposes, and the distribution of inflammatory content. Wedding celebrations and funeral services remain exempt from the prohibition, along with government personnel and judicial officers conducting official business.

Officials emphasized the extension aims to safeguard lives and property while maintaining public order. The department directed widespread communication efforts to inform residents about the continuing enforcement measures.
