Put Gifts in Gov Name to Stop Asset Grab

Politicians in Malawi are facing criticism for their donation practices. A local politician named Vitumbiko Mumba from the Malawi Congress Party donated two ambulances and K1 million to two rural health centers in Mzimba South. However, social media users and political commentators are challenging how these donations are managed.

People worry that politicians might take back their donations after elections. They want donated assets to be registered as government property to prevent politicians from reclaiming them later. Political commentator Wonderful Mkhutche argues that registering donations under the government's name ensures the gifts are genuine and not just attempts to win votes.

Social media users like Esimie Banda Banda and Paul Tsamba Phiri have spoken out about the need for transparency. They believe donations should belong to the government to protect community resources during political transitions. The concern is that without proper registration, politicians could withdraw support and leave communities without critical resources.

Donation practices are common in Malawi, especially as elections approach. Citizens are increasingly demanding accountability from their political leaders. They want to ensure that donations truly benefit communities rather than serving as political marketing tools. The goal is to create a system where public support remains consistent regardless of which party is in power.
