Rainbow Six Siege X Shakes Up with Free Access and New Modes

Rainbow Six Siege announced a brand new version at the Siege X Showcase. Coming June 10, Siege X adds Dual Front, an exciting 6v6 game mode, alongside big improvements to the base game, including better visuals, completely redone audio, upgraded rappelling systems, and much more. The update also brings improved player safety features and free access letting anyone play the tactical shooter without paying anything. Right this minute through March 19, players can join the free Dual Front closed beta on PC via Ubisoft Connect, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S to experience the new mode early.

The new map called District hosts Dual Front, where two teams of six fight each other, attacking enemy areas and defending their home territory simultaneously. Players pick from 35 selected Operators that change twice every season. Each match features two active objective points, one in each team's section. Teams must plant a sabotage kit in the enemy's objective room and guard it to capture that sector and move toward the final target, the Base. The first team to sabotage the enemy Base wins the game, but teams must balance offense with defense.

For the first time, players can use attacking and defending Operators together on one team, creating exciting new gadget combinations and strategies. Players also respawn after dying in Dual Front, allowing more room for trying different tactics and adjusting plans mid-game. The map stretches larger than standard Siege maps, full of fresh angles and paths to flank enemies. A neutral zone sits between the two objective lanes where players freely move around, setting traps or sneaking into other lanes to help teammates. Limited-time missions appear in this neutral area, giving rewards to the first team completing them.

The Dual Front beta runs until March 19 on PC through Ubisoft Connect, PS5, and Xbox Series X. You don't need to have already Rainbow Six Siege to play the beta. Remember that when Siege X launches June 10, Dual Front will only be available permanently on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S as part of the free access program.

All the upgrades coming with Siege X affect both Dual Front and the original 5v5 mode. Updated 5v5 maps feature new lighting and shadows, including your character's shadow that might reveal your position. Textures look twice as detailed with optional 4K textures for PC players. Destructible materials look better, enhancing the game's famous environmental destruction. At launch, five maps receive these updates - Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank, and Kafe - with three additional maps updated every season.

New destructible elements add tactical options to every environment. When damaged, red gas pipes shoot fire, eventually exploding with flames that block areas. When shot, fire extinguishers burst into thick smoke clouds, stunning nearby Operators. Metal detectors can be interacted with, broken, or temporarily disabled using EMPs. The rappel system feels smoother thanks to new motion capture, letting players sprint horizontally and move around building corners easily.

The completely rebuilt audio system changes how sound travels and echoes, helping players better locate other Operators by their movements and actions. A new communication wheel makes team callouts easier without talking, letting players place different markers in the environment to coordinate strategy. Weapon inspect features let players examine their cosmetic weapon customizations during matches. Ranked matches use a faster pick-and-ban system where teams make choices simultaneously, with fresh selections when teams switch between attack and defense for better strategic adaptation.

New tutorials and skill training help beginners learn the basics and prepare for competitive matches. Creating fair gameplay remains a top priority for the Siege team, which built upon recent successes in fighting cheating and toxicity. In 2024, they made their anti-cheat team three times bigger, eliminated several cheat creators, and made anti-cheat responses 150% faster. As a result, reports about cheating dropped 30% compared to last year.

When Siege X launches, all current anti-cheat tools, such as Cheat Detection, Mousetrap, QB, and Binary Hardening, will be combined under one name: R6 ShieldGuard. This unified system introduces new security solutions, including live updates that don't require scheduled maintenance and make cheat creation harder. The Reputation System will limit access to certain playlists for toxic players as the team develops next-generation anti-cheat protection for Siege.

Starting with Season 2 of Year 10, Rainbow Six Siege becomes free to play. Free access players start with 10 Operators and can unlock up to 26 by playing the game. Free access includes many beginner-friendly modes like Unranked, Quick Play, and Dual Front. Players who upgrade to premium access unlock Ranked mode and Siege Cup once they reach level 50, plus they immediately gain more Operators. Current Rainbow Six Siege players keep everything they already unlocked and receive exclusive veteran rewards thanking them for supporting the first ten years of Siege.

Rainbow Six Siege is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC through Ubisoft Connect, Steam, and Epic Games and comes with Ubisoft+ Premium subscriptions.
