Ramaphosa Offers Condolences for Namibian Leader

South Africa's Ramaphosa Mourns Namibian Leaders' Deaths.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa shared his condolences with Namibians Sunday following the death of founding president Sam Nujoma at age 95. His message acknowledged the dual loss facing Namibia, which mourned President Hage Geingob's passing just weeks earlier.

"Our nations share deep bonds through our struggles. Namibia's pain resonates with every South African," Ramaphosa said, emphasizing the intertwined history of their liberation movements.

The South African leader praised Nujoma as an exceptional freedom fighter who challenged colonial powers through his leadership of the Ovamboland People's Organisation, the South West Africa People's Organisation, and the People's Liberation Army of Namibia. These organizations stood firm against apartheid authorities both in exile and within their homeland.

Ramaphosa credited Nujoma with instilling pride and resistance in Namibians during their fight for independence. "Namibia's freedom in 1990 sparked hope for South Africa's liberation," he said.

The strong partnership between the neighboring countries stems from Nujoma's leadership after independence, Ramaphosa noted. He pledged to strengthen these bilateral ties, expressing hope that Namibians would find solace in Nujoma's enduring legacy.
