Royal visit in Kenya for talks and tree planting

The Dutch royal pair arrived in Kenya Monday night just after 8 p.m. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima stepped off their plane, greeted by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe. President William Ruto invited them for this four-day trip. Several Dutch officials came along, including Caspar Veldkamp from Foreign Affairs.

Both nations serve as regional business centers with strong economic ties. Their visit aims to build partnerships in trade, security, climate work, and youth programs. The royal house released plans showing the couple will meet with President Ruto about teamwork in peace, security, and economic growth. They plan to sign agreements covering tourism, trade, farming, and shipping.

Tuesday morning starts with President Ruto and First Lady Rachel welcoming the royal visitors at State House. After official greetings, they'll have a private meeting. Then, the President and King will speak briefly to reporters. Later they'll watch as officials sign several cooperation documents about tourism, trade, security, farming, and fishing.

The royal pair will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior honoring those who fought for Kenya's freedom. They'll chat with young Kenyans from different backgrounds about personal experiences and ideas for their country's future. These talks will cover human rights, good leadership, and democracy. The busy day continues with tree planting, supporting President Ruto's goal of growing 15 billion trees by 2032.
