Rubles rise, airfare falls, St Petersburg’s holiday bargain

Outbound air travel from St. Petersburg has grown cheaper, with certain routes showing considerable year-over-year declines in ticket costs. The Association of Tour Operators of Russia reports that overall international fares have fallen between 5 and 15 percent compared to the previous winter season, driven by a stronger ruble, extended holiday periods, expanded flight capacity, and booking promotions.

Travelers heading to Phuket have seen the steepest reduction at 26 percent, while tickets to Baku decreased 21 percent and Bangkok fell 18 percent. Yerevan and Dubai routes have both become 15 percent more affordable. Winter holiday demand has surged nearly 50 percent, reflecting consumer enthusiasm for the reduced pricing.

Certain destinations have bucked the trend, with Tbilisi fares climbing 32 percent, Minsk rising 16 percent, and Samarkand tickets increasing 8 percent.
