Ruto jets to China for state visit

President Ruto heads to China soon for five important days. His trip starts on April 22 after President Xi Jinping invited him. Kenya wants stronger ties with China, already its biggest trading partner. They first became friends in 1963 before a break happened in 1967. Their friendship started again in 1978 with more business deals following.

This marks Ruto's third visit to China. He went last year for Belt and Road talks. The Foreign Affairs office says meetings will focus on infrastructure, healthcare, technology, green energy, manufacturing, and agriculture. Both countries plan to sign a special partnership agreement. This deal helps Kenyan projects like technical schools, hospitals, and highways.

The 170 km Rironi-Malaba Highway construction begins in June 2025. Cabinet members travel with Ruto to attract Chinese investment. They hope for new chances in farming, education, digital trade, blue economy. Ruto wants jobs created for young people through these projects. He also plans to talk about making global money systems fairer.

Kenya leads peace efforts around East Africa. China appreciates working together with African nations. Their spokesperson Lin Jian believes this visit makes both countries closer friends. Both nations want stronger South-South cooperation. Their shared goals include sustainable growth together.
