Ruto launches Kamuwongo-Kandwia road works in Kitui

Residents of Mwingi North in Kitui County have welcomed President Ruto's launch of the Kamuw'ongo-Kandwia road tarmacking project, which they believe will transform economic opportunities across the Eastern region. The 13-kilometer stretch is part of a longer 109-kilometer route connecting Mwingi to the Buuri-Katheri-Meru road network, ultimately linking communities to major centers including Nairobi, Garissa, and Meru.

Local business owner Morris Mutambuki anticipates significant growth for his fuel station once the roadwork concludes, citing easier travel and increased vehicle traffic. Kenya National Highways Authority Acting Director General Luka Kimeli expects completion within 24 months, noting the road's strategic position within the Mombasa-Isiolo-Moyale corridor extending into Ethiopia. The improved infrastructure will reduce transport costs, enhance market access for farmers, and enable faster emergency response services.

Trader Tabitha Kilonzo expressed relief after years of difficult conditions, particularly during rainy seasons when vehicles frequently became stuck. She expects faster delivery of fresh produce from Meru, which will strengthen local markets and reduce spoilage that plagued the area under previous road conditions.
