Ruto sets up panel to find new KNCHR boss

President Ruto started looking for someone new to lead the Kenya Human Rights Agency. He picked eight people who will help find the next chairperson. The president published their names in an official government notice. He made these choices according to the rules in Section 11 of the commission law.

The selection team includes Joe Ager, Lawrence Muiruri, Jackline Makokha, Irene Asienga, Kathurima Kirimi, Catherine Wameyo, bar association head Faith Odhiambo, along Professor Kenneth Mutuma. These people must advertise the job opening, check applications, talk with candidates, and give Ruto a list of possible choices. Parliament will question these finalists before anyone becomes chairperson.

The new leader replaces Roseline Odede, who died in January after serving since 2021. This independent commission exists because of Article 59 in Kenya's 2010 Constitution and became official through a 2011 law. The agency protects human rights across the country and follows international standards for national rights organizations.

The commission monitors government actions regarding rights issues and tries to move Kenya toward better human rights practices. Workers investigate rights violations, study how well standards work, teach people about rights, and collaborate with other groups.
