Ruto vows city status for Elburgon in housing push

President William Ruto launched a 2,680-unit housing project in Elburgon Town on Tuesday, promising to transform the settlement in Nakuru County into a city. The Boma Yangu Michinda development will provide homes for more than 9,300 residents and add 35 retail spaces for local merchants.

The complex contains 680 studios, 1,330 two-bedroom apartments and 670 three-bedroom units. Residents will access playgrounds, classrooms, water storage systems and parking within secured grounds.

Ruto said the government operates affordable housing programs across 111 constituencies nationwide. He emphasized that the initiative supports Kenya's economic agenda by giving citizens dignified living spaces near their workplaces.

The president also broke ground on 382 housing units in Marigat Town, Baringo County, on Tuesday afternoon. That project employs more than 80 workers and reserves manufacturing contracts for informal sector craftsmen.
