Brig. Gen. Dr M Sakhawat Hossain inspected ongoing restoration efforts at multiple waterway facilities in Barishal yesterday. The retired military officer examined progress at Jail Canal, Fish Landing Center at Port Roads, and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation's Steamer Ghat. He holds dual responsibilities as Shipping Adviser and overseer of the labour and employment ministry. Local media representatives met with Hossain at the Circuit House auditorium following his site inspections. BIWTC Chairman Salim Ullah, Divisional Commissioner Raihan Kaisar, and Deputy Commissioner Delwar Hossain accompanied the official during his river port assessment.
The adviser disclosed that an 850 crore taka anti-erosion initiative for Hijla and Mehendiganj upazilas remains pending government approval. He confirmed that various departmental initiatives targeting Barishal's advancement continue moving forward as planned. Hossain emphasized his personal commitment to expediting completion timelines for projects across multiple government agencies. The official expressed determination to deliver these development programs within the shortest possible timeframe. His ministry oversees numerous infrastructure improvements throughout the regional transportation network.
