Sampa ablaze, fatal throne war pits Sammor Duah II against Gyafla II

Police forces have successfully ended violent conflicts that erupted across Sampa and nearby areas on September 10, 2025. The deadly confrontations resulted from an ongoing leadership dispute between two rival factions. One person lost their life while multiple others sustained serious injuries during the unrest. Attackers destroyed significant portions of the local marketplace and burned down residential buildings. Financial losses from the destruction reached several million Ghana cedis.

Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah released an official statement confirming the return of stability to affected regions. The violence originated from competing claims between followers of Nana Yaw Sammor-Duah II and Nana Samgba Gyafla II. Three law enforcement personnel suffered gunshot injuries but received medical treatment and returned to duty. Additional security units have moved into Sampa and the surrounding communities to maintain order. Officers continue meeting with community leaders to establish permanent peace agreements.
