Samsung gets folded by China's Huawei phones

Huawei dominates the global foldable smartphone market with a commanding 48 percent share during the first half of 2025, according to Canalys research. Samsung trails significantly behind at just 20 percent market share. This represents a dramatic reversal from 2024, when Samsung controlled 45 percent and Huawei held only 24 percent of segment sales. The Chinese manufacturer offers four distinct foldable models ranging from the budget Nova Flip at $750 to the premium triple-fold Mate XT Ultimate exceeding $4,000. Samsung presents three options with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, starting at $2,000.

Foldable devices account for merely 1 to 1.5 percent of total smartphone shipments worldwide yet generate substantial profits for manufacturers. China leads regional adoption with 3.2 percent market penetration, while North America reaches only 1.2 percent. The affordable Nova Flip appears instrumental in establishing Huawei's market leadership position within this emerging technology segment.
