Samsung may have to pay tribute to Trump's favorite chipmaker, Intel

Samsung Electronics seeks strategic collaboration with Intel Corporation amid shifting political dynamics. The Korean technology company aims to strengthen ties with American semiconductor firms following the Trump administration's acquisition of a ten percent equity position in Intel. Taiwan Economic Daily reports that Samsung pursues this alliance to secure favorable trade agreements and avoid potential tariffs on its operations.

The partnership could center on glass substrate technology development. Intel recently discontinued its glass substrate research program and transferred several engineers to Samsung's American Electro-Mechanics division. Samsung views glass substrates as vital for future semiconductor packaging solutions. Intel plans to license its glass substrate innovations, creating opportunities for Samsung to manufacture products using this technology.

Samsung faces limited prospects for adopting Intel's 18A manufacturing processes due to internal competition concerns. The Korean firm develops two-nanometer production capabilities at its Texas facility, creating potential conflicts with Intel's services. However, strategic cooperation would benefit both companies while helping Samsung maintain positive relationships with American trade officials.
