Sani calls Tinubu’s police withdrawal policy commendable but doubtful

Former legislator Shehu Sani praised the presidential decision to reassign officers from dignitary protection details while questioning whether authorities would actually follow through with implementation. The ex-senator suggested on social media that Bola Tinubu's announcement might never materialize beyond rhetoric despite addressing urgent safety shortfalls.

Nigerian leadership directed police commanders to redeploy personnel from individual security assignments to community patrol operations, with the Civil Defence Corps absorbing responsibility for safeguarding officials who require armed escorts. The administration authorized expanding the force by 30,000 positions to strengthen law enforcement capacity across underserved regions where chronic staffing gaps have compromised public safety.
