'Sant Tukaram' film faces backlash in Pune, shows cancelled after objections from Sant Tukaram Sansthan

Cinema halls across Pune have suspended screenings of the biographical film Sant Tukaram after local religious organizations voiced objections. The Sant Tukaram Sansthan expressed concerns about the portrayal of the revered 17th-century saint-poet, prompting authorities to take preventive measures. Police officials issued advisories to theater operators regarding potential disturbances during movie showings. Director Aditya Om confirmed that most venues canceled scheduled performances following these warnings. Theater owners cited safety concerns as their primary reason for halting exhibitions.

The Central Board of Film Certification awarded the production an unrestricted U rating without requiring any content modifications. Filmmakers emphasized their respectful approach to depicting the saint's life and spiritual teachings through the medium of cinema. The biographical drama features actors Subodh Bhave and Arun Govil in prominent roles alongside an ensemble cast. Curzon Films and Purushottam Studios collaborated on the project under the supervision of producer B. Gautham. Financial losses have mounted for distributors as screening cancellations continue throughout the metropolitan area.
