Santa Monica police probed fatal shooting near pier

Someone got killed right next to the Santa Monica Pier after a fight between two crews escalated into gunfire, and cops still haven't caught anybody. Santa Monica PD rolled up to Parking Lot 1 North on Pacific Coast Highway in the early morning hours and found an adult suffering several gunshot injuries. Medics couldn't save them.

And the timing is genuinely eerie. Just hours earlier, that whole stretch had been shut to cars for a World Cup final livestream. The Ferris wheel, the carousel, the whole tourist-postcard vibe. Then a physical brawl breaks out in the same zone after dark, and someone ends up dead. No suspects in custody, no ID on the victim yet.

Santa Monica PD confirmed the preliminary findings point to an altercation that turned lethal, but the full picture is still murky. Detectives are digging into what actually triggered the violence between the two groups. For a landmark that usually draws families and sunset selfies, this is a grim reminder that the area isn't immune to chaos.
