Saved on the gallows, Munyakho brings home honey and hope

Stephen Munyakho got pulled off death row in Saudi Arabia after spending over ten years locked up for killing a Yemeni coworker, and the guy says he made peace with possibly never getting out until people back home raised cash to save him. The murder conviction landed him on death row twice before the victim's family agreed to take blood money instead of watching him get executed. Senator Mohamed Faki helped coordinate fundraising that hit 20 million shillings before the government and World Muslim League kicked in the rest to reach the full million dollars needed.

Munyakho and his mom, Dorothy Kweyu, stopped by the senator's office in Ganjoni to say thanks and brought dates plus honey as gifts. His family has been dealing with multiple deaths since he got back, and Faki pointed out that tons of Kenyans suffer abuse and exploitation while working overseas in the Gulf region.
