President Lazarus Chakwera ordered government officials to organize a national memorial service for former Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima. The ceremony honors Chilima and eight other people who died during a plane crash at Nthungwa. Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu announced the June 10 event during a press conference. Government workers will partner with grieving families to create a respectful tribute. The memorial gives the entire country a chance to remember the victims together.

Religious leaders from different churches will conduct prayers at the crash site where the aircraft went down. Faith groups plan to offer comfort and healing to citizens across Malawi. Kunkuyu said families can still hold private services for their loved ones. The official government ceremony supports these personal gatherings rather than replacing them. Multiple memorial events help people grieve and honor the departed victims properly.

Chilima traveled on official government business when his flight disappeared over Nkhatabay district. Search teams found the crashed plane among the rocky hills of Nthungwa forest. The tragedy shocked the nation and prompted widespread mourning throughout communities. Citizens and world leaders sent messages of sympathy to affected families. The crash claimed nine lives and left the country grieving for its former vice president.
