Selangor's FRIM Forest Park lands Unesco World Heritage glory as Malaysia cheers

Malaysia scored a major victory when Forest Research Institute Malaysia's Selangor Forest Park grabbed the coveted UNESCO World Heritage Site status. The 47th World Heritage Committee members gathered in Paris and rubber-stamped the decision that makes the artificial rainforest the nation's sixth protected treasure. What started as devastated tin-mining wasteland has blossomed into a thriving lowland jungle that amazes scientists worldwide. The remarkable transformation showcases cutting-edge reforestation techniques that brought dead earth back to life. Experts praise the park's incredible biodiversity that rivals natural forests across Southeast Asia.

The Tourism Ministry chiefs are celebrating the global recognition that puts Malaysia back on the international map. Officials believe the prestigious listing will attract millions of tourists seeking authentic rainforest experiences. The forest park joins an elite group including Kinabalu Park, Gunung Mulu National Park, the historic cities of Melaka and George Town, Lenggong Valley, and the ancient Niah Caves complex. Tourism bosses predict the designation will become their flagship attraction for the upcoming Visit Selangor 2025 campaign. The ministry expects the UNESCO stamp of approval to boost visitor numbers significantly during Visit Malaysia 2026.
