Construction at Semwa Dam in Mashonaland Central Province has reached 45 percent completion following the deployment of a 1,000-kilowatt solar facility that enables continuous aggregate crushing operations. The climate adaptation project, funded entirely by the government under President Mnangagwa's development program, employs more than 250 workers from surrounding communities.
Francis Dzenga, assistant resident engineer with the Zimbabwe National Water Authority, reported that crews were strengthening the foundation with dental concrete while simultaneously advancing seven of 12 spillway apron blocks. Contractor Makomo Engineering installed the solar array to eliminate power disruptions that previously halted quarry processing.
The dam rises along the Ruya River in Masosone communal lands near Maname mountain in Rushinga district, bringing water infrastructure to a semi-arid region. Steel reinforcement materials for the roller-compacted concrete structure came from Manhize.
