Fans packed the Kampala Serena Hotel for the first dfcu Jazz Festival last Saturday night. Grammy winner Kirk Whalum played alongside Ugandan star Isaiah Katumwa at the event. Tshaka Mayanja started the show with his Black Roots Academy band. People danced as music filled the room for hours. The crowd stood cheering after many songs through the night.
Isaiah Katumwa returned from America to perform at this special concert. He played his popular song My Joy as fans moved to the beat. Katumwa will soon mark 30 years making jazz music. Whalum ended the night with gospel sounds just before midnight. Both musicians thanked DFCU Bank for creating this new festival.
