Seven Arrested in Connection with Violent Kikuyu Protests and Destruction

Seven people appeared before judges at Kiambu Law Court on Monday. Police arrested them after violent protests hit Kikuyu town on June 25, 2025. The suspects face serious criminal charges for their actions during the demonstrations. Officers presented evidence linking each person to multiple crimes. Courts ordered all seven men to stay locked up for one week.

The arrested individuals are Sammy Ndung'u Kariuki, Simon Njoroge Hiuhu, Ali Shama Tabet, Lawrence Kariuki Ndung'u, and James Njuguna Mwaura. Lewis Kariuki Njuhi and Peter Njenga Ngina also face charges alongside the other suspects. Detectives accuse them of burning buildings and stealing from shops. Police say they robbed people with violence during the chaos. Officers will continue gathering evidence against all suspects.

Kiambu Police Station will hold the seven men for additional investigations. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations promised to pursue all criminals involved. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that damage assessments continue across the affected areas. Officials still count the full extent of destruction from the violent events. Authorities vow to hold everyone accountable for their actions.

Rights groups report that 16 people died during the protests. Government sources claim only 10 people lost their lives. Rioters destroyed 27 government vehicles and 65 private cars. Many vehicles burned at police stations and government buildings. A school bus was among the destroyed vehicles during the violence.
