Simmons defends Jaker Ali after Bangladesh survives

Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons defended T20I captain Jaker Ali on Saturday after the batter reached 32 runs against Afghanistan in Sharjah to help secure the series. Simmons said international batters experience failures, and he dismissed concerns about Jaker's five consecutive single-digit scores before the match. The coach praised Bangladesh's ability to win close contests as evidence of maturation, but he said the tight finishes strain everyone's nerves.

Simmons credited Nurul Hasan for completing the chase with an unbeaten 31 from 21 deliveries, and he said batters must accept responsibility when opportunities arrive. Bangladesh improved against Afghanistan's spin bowling after struggling in the opening game, and the coach said bowlers maintained discipline by targeting the stumps on shorter boundaries. The team has developed reliable bowling combinations over seven weeks that positioned Bangladesh to win both matches.
