Singapores 10B Food Market Just Met Its Match

Singapore imports 90 percent of its food from other countries because it lacks farm space. In 2024, Zimbabwe sent $10.3 million worth of goods to Singapore, mostly blueberries, avocados, and chillies. Singapore exported much more to Zimbabwe, sending about $343 million in goods. The trade gap shows room for Zimbabwe to sell more farm products.

Rusyaidi Radzi from the Singapore Business Federation thinks Zimbabwean farms can feed Singaporean markets. His group links businesses between countries instead of just talking about them. They find the right partners for companies like SoIAgri that want to work in Zimbabwe. These connections help solve trade problems between the nations.

According to ZimTrade leader Similo Nkala, Singapore buys about $10 billion of food each year. Zimbabwe has already increased its blueberry exports to $50 million, showing fast growth since 2020. Because of their quality, Zimbabwean avocados reach Europe and the Middle East. Singapore might become another key market for these fresh foods.

Zimbabwe ambassador Martin Makururu wants Singapore investors to partner with local farmers. This team approach would help grow the exact crops Singapore needs, and better farm deals between the countries would benefit everyone involved.
