Small Miners Shock Nation 65 Percent Gold Surge

Small-Scale Miners Drive Zimbabwe's Gold Output to New Heights.

Zimbabwe's gold production soared in 2024, thanks largely to small-scale miners. They contributed over 65% of the 36.48 tonnes produced.

This beat the government's annual target of 35 tonnes and was a 21% jump from 2023's output of 30.1 tonnes.

Fidelity Gold Refinery praised the small-scale mining sector. General Manager Peter Magaramombe highlighted their "commitment and loyalty."

Of the 36.5 tonnes delivered, small-scale miners accounted for 65%, and large-scale miners made up the other 35%.

Magaramombe also commended Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) President Henrietta Rushwaya. He said her efforts to encourage formal gold sales have benefited the country.

The push has brought in more foreign currency, helped formalize the small-scale sector, and implemented policies.

Rushwaya said small-scale miners are aiming even higher for 2025. The goal is to produce at least 40 tonnes of gold.

"We take pride as a sector," she noted. "We are not just targeting 24 tonnes."
