A woman took her cousin to court in Harare yesterday. Ratidzai Matsika accused Rutendo Chapundu of having an affair with her husband since 2022. The Harare Civil Court gave Ratidzai a peace order against Rutendo. Ratidzai claimed Rutendo insulted her, made threats to take her husband, and wanted to ruin her marriage. She told the court Rutendo promised to destroy her marriage.
Ratidzai said Rutendo admitted to sleeping with her husband for two years. She added that Rutendo hits her whenever she asks about the affair. Both women compete for the husband's attention, making their home life miserable. Ratidzai mentioned Rutendo calls her husband even when he stays at home. She told the court they had argued loudly last Sunday.
Rutendo sent Ratidzai voice messages revealing intimate details about her bedroom problems. These private details came from conversations with the husband. Rutendo threatened to set fire to Ratidzai's house if she refused to give up her husband. She hurled insults at Ratidzai over their shared relationship with the same man. Rutendo did not deny the affair when asked to respond in court.
Magistrate Meenal Naratom ordered Rutendo to stop verbally abusing and hitting Ratidzai. Rutendo told Ratidzai she must either accept sharing her husband or leave him.
