Sony jacks up PS5 prices, leaving fans fuming

Sony raised PlayStation 5 prices by about 25 percent starting today across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Reports suggest American customers might soon face even steeper increases, around 30 percent. The company blamed tough economic conditions, high inflation, and changing currency values for the price jump.

European gamers will pay €499.99 for the Digital Edition, with British players seeing £429.99 price tags. Australian customers face AU$ 749.95 costs, and New Zealanders must spend NZ$859.95 for the same console. Sony did not share exact figures for other regions, telling shoppers to check with local stores instead.

The standard PS5 model with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive keeps its current price in Europe and Britain. Australian buyers will pay AU$829.95 for this version, and New Zealand customers will pay NZ$949.95. The company also lowered prices on separate Blu-ray drives to €79.99 in Europe, £69.99 in Britain, AU$124.95 in Australia, and NZ$139.95 in New Zealand. The PS5 Pro maintains its existing price point for the moment.
