The person who leads Uganda's Parliament wants everyone to plant trees. Anita Among asked all the lawmakers to help stop climate change. She talked about how hot the weather has been lately. The very hot days show us that climate change is happening.
"You felt the heat these past weeks in many places. This tells us climate change is real. We must act fast as leaders, or bad things will happen," Ms. Among said.
She asked each of the 556 people who work in Parliament to plant 1,000 trees. This would grow more than half a million new trees in Uganda, improving the air.
"Leaders should show others what to do. We must protect our land," she said.
Ms. Among thanked Beatrice Anywar for working hard to save forests. Ms. Anywar helps run the government department that takes care of nature.
Uganda has many problems with its land. People cut down trees. They build houses where water should flow. The weather changes in strange ways. All these things hurt animals, plants, and people.
Ms. Among wants to help fix these problems, just like other people around the world. If the big leaders plant trees, maybe everyone else will, too.
The hard part will be making sure people keep planting trees for many years, not just talking about it.
