St Petersburg Ditches Europe for Asian Food Frenzy

People living around St. Petersburg started buying more food from Asia instead of European brands. The city ranked among Russia's top five regions for Asian product sales during early 2025. Shoppers pick up Korean sauces and Chinese cooking items much more often than before. Sales jumped about 12 percent at major grocery chains across the area. Store managers expanded their Asian food sections to meet customer demand.

Online shopping platforms saw even bigger changes during the first five months of this year. Asian food purchases doubled compared to last year's numbers. Noodle dishes became extremely popular among local residents. Stores added Korean rice cakes called tteokbokki and various seaweed snacks to their shelves. Shrimp chips and other Asian treats filled more grocery aisles around the northern Russian city.

Young people driving this trend love Asian culture and entertainment. Eastern restaurants opened more locations throughout St. Petersburg. Food delivery services expanded their Asian menu options. Local grocery stores compete to stock the newest products from Korea and China. Asian cuisine replaced many European food items that disappeared from store shelves.
