St Petersburg scooters running wild

Electric scooters have become super popular on St. Petersburg streets. Auto expert Dmitry Popov notes that many people also ride electric unicycles and bikes these days. The city saw about 50 thousand scooters last year but only 42 thousand this year. Despite fewer scooters, accidents keep increasing on city roads. This worrying trend shows safety problems with personal mobility devices.

Scooter riders often ignore traffic rules completely. Nobody seems to enforce regulations or punish dangerous riding behaviors. The streets become more hazardous for everyone when the rules are not unfollowed. Popov believes urgent action must happen before someone gets seriously hurt. He recommends making riders register their devices with the authorities.

The expert suggests creating training programs for new riders. License plates or special permits might help identify rule-breakers. These measures could make streets safer for pedestrians and drivers alike. Without proper control systems, personal mobility devices will continue causing problems throughout the city. Everyone deserves safe travel options, whether walking, driving, or riding electric vehicles.
