Martha Karua plans to run for president in 2027. She believes Kenya needs a woman leader because men have failed to unite the country since its independence. She told people in Isiolo that as president, she would bring Kenyans together just like mothers unite their families. Karua compared national leadership to how mothers make sure all children eat, even when food is scarce. She asked voters to support her People's Liberation Party next time.
Karua made clear she will not accept another running mate position after serving as Raila Odinga's deputy candidate in 2022. She stated this firmly during a Hot 96 interview last March. If she does not become the main candidate, she prefers supporting someone else rather than being second-in-command again. She previously tried for president in 2013 and ran for Kirinyaga governor in 2017 but lost to Anne Waiguru. Karua promises to strengthen opposition forces before the next national elections.
