Swanky New Pads Roll In for Zim Civil Servants

Government workers across Zimbabwe will receive better housing as officials build new homes for public servants. President Mnangagwa opened a fresh residential complex for police officers at Chimoio Camp in Harare on Friday. The modern flats contain 96 units for junior officers from constable to inspector ranks. Leaders want decent homes to boost worker morale and improve government services. Housing Minister Zhemu Soda said his department plans more projects nationwide.

The ministry completed similar buildings at Marimba for health workers and Beitbridge for civil servants. Construction teams finished 96 percent of work on Marondera Dombotombo flats with 64 units ready soon. Rural areas will also benefit from housing programs starting with Mutawatawa in Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe district. Officials service 992 residential plots in Kasese and over 1,200 stands in Crownlands for government employees.

Workers can apply for housing loans through the Civil Service Housing Loan Facility to build homes faster. The National Housing Joint Committee maps delivery strategies for public sector housing needs. Government targets one million new housing units by 2025 to ensure every citizen has shelter. The revised goal exceeded the original target of 220,000 units outlined in National Development Strategy 1.
