Tanzania enlists local leaders to protect power grid

Tanzanian officials have identified local government leaders as essential partners in protecting national electricity infrastructure. An Ilala district commissioner stated that these leaders, due to their community proximity, are crucial for safeguarding equipment and educating residents on proper procedures for reporting power faults. He emphasized their role in combating illegal connections that cause service disruptions.

A representative from the power utility TANESCO confirmed a new strategy to deepen collaboration with local authorities. This initiative involves briefing leaders on strategic projects to help them serve as a reliable link between the company and the public. The chairperson for local leaders in Dar es Salaam welcomed the engagement, pledging their readiness to disseminate accurate information and work closely with the government and TANESCO.
