Tanzania's Electric Train Service Shows Strong Early Success

Tanzania's new electric trains earned 30 billion shillings in their first six months. The trains started running between June and November this year.

The government's main speaker, Gerson Msigwa, shared good news about the train system. More than a million people have ridden these fast trains since summer. The new trains carry twice as many riders as the old ones did in a full year.

The trains connect big cities like Dar es Salaam and Dodoma. They make ten trips each day. Four trains run the long route to Dodoma, and two others go to Morogoro. The rail company wants to make the rides even better for its customers.

But some problems exist. Bad people steal cables and break parts of the train system. These crimes make the trains stop running. Police caught many of these thieves. The courts will deal with them.

The rail project keeps growing. Tanzania spent 23.3 trillion shillings on these new tracks, which workers built in different parts of the country. The tracks will reach from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza and Kigoma.

The building moves ahead at different speeds. The track to Mwanza shows the most progress. Other parts just started. The government plans more tracks, including one to Musangati.

These modern trains change how people travel in Tanzania. More riders choose trains over other ways to move around. The rail company works hard to fix problems and improve the service every day.
