Tauqeer Raza aides forge letters to incite riots

Uttar Pradesh Police charged two associates of Islamic cleric Tauqeer Raza with forgery on Monday after a resident accused them of fabricating letters bearing his name and signature. Authorities filed the case against Dr Nafees and Nadeem under sections 318 (4), 338, 336 (3), and 340 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following complaints from Liyaqat. He alleged the pair forged documents claiming his support for protests related to the I Love Muhammad controversy.

Officials have arrested more than 83 suspects following violence that erupted after Friday prayers on Sept. 26 in Bareilly. The Bareilly Development Authority demolished a marriage hall linked to Nafees Khan that was constructed on illegally occupied Waqf land. Authorities also sealed Nafees Khan's eyewear shop and four shops belonging to Nadeem Khan. Police sealed the house and four shops of Farhat, who allegedly provided shelter to Tauqeer Raza.
