Tax Stamps Drive Beer Cash Boom

Tax experts from SICPA Malawi train revenue workers to track how tax stamps affect money collection. The training helps staff measure results from the Kalondola Tax Stamp system that boosted beer tax money almost 78 percent between 2021 and 2023. Workers learn to spot trends and make better plans for catching tax cheats. SICPA staff share tools that let local teams work on their own with less outside help. MRA teams need these skills to meet their goal of collecting 4.3 trillion Malawi Kwacha next year.

MRA leader Kondwani Sauti-Phiri said tax stamps help catch people who avoid taxes. SICPA money manager Mussa Chayenda stressed that teaching skills matters more than running systems. The training brought together people from many MRA offices across the country. Technical expert Jerome Duperrut led classes on analyzing data from tax stamps. This teamwork shows that both groups want clearer and better tax collection for Malawi.
