Ten Maoists dump guns in Chaibasa, DGP warns holdouts

Ten CPI Maoist members abandoned their armed struggle Thursday in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district. Director General of Police Anurag Gupta received their surrender during a ceremony at Chaibasa police headquarters. The group consisted of six males and four females who had served under high-value commanders Misir Besra and Patiram Manjhi. Both leaders carry government bounties worth one crore rupees each.

The former rebels committed to rejecting violence and integrating into mainstream society. Police officials attributed this success to effective rehabilitation programs and continuous security operations. Authorities report this represents the second significant defection within September following nine Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad members who surrendered earlier. The state government targets complete elimination of Naxal presence by March 2026 through sustained counterinsurgency efforts.
