Event organizers have launched a strategic partnership with Star FM radio to promote the upcoming King Mzilikazi Annual Commemorations scheduled for September 5 through 6. The Mthwakazi Ka Mzilikazi Cultural Association will host festivities at the King Mzilikazi Memorial Site in Mhlahlandlela, Matopos under the theme celebrating how culture strengthens the nation. Traditional leaders from the Matabeleland region will guide the commemorations, which have taken place annually since 2000. Dr Gasolo from the organizing association confirmed that preparations are progressing smoothly for the milestone celebration. The partnership marks Star FM's first collaboration with a Matabeleland cultural event.
Educational seminars will occupy the first day of commemorations, featuring participants from early childhood development through tertiary education levels. Cultural heritage preservation and indigenous language promotion will form the primary focus of these academic activities. The second day promises larger attendance with festivities beginning through a cultural parade from Matshobana suburb to Bulawayo City Hall. Transportation will then carry participants 22 kilometers to the memorial site along Old Gwanda Road. Traditional displays by various cultural groups will feature alongside customary foods and beverages.
Star FM General Manager Steve Vickers emphasized the significance of this broadcasting partnership for the station's regional expansion efforts. The collaboration represents growth for the national broadcaster as it extends coverage to Matabeleland cultural events. Organizers anticipate attendance exceeding 5,000 guests from diverse backgrounds and cultural affiliations. Government officials and traditional leaders will join the celebration alongside various cultural organizations. Attendees receive encouragement to wear traditional attire representing their respective cultural heritage.
