The government cuts energy fees to lower costs

Zimbabwe has reduced or eliminated various energy sector charges following a comprehensive government assessment designed to lower business costs and potentially decrease prices for electricity, fuel, and liquefied petroleum gas. Information Minister Jenfan Muswere announced that authorities lowered the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority license application charge from $2,500 to $2,000 while completely removing the solar generation license valued at $2,875. Petroleum import permits dropped 50 percent from $30,000, rural fuel retailing licenses decreased from $200 to $150, and LPG retail permits will cost half the current $230 rate.

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube indicated that trimmed regulatory expenses should reduce consumer costs for energy products. The adjustments form part of President Mnangagwa's business reform initiative covering 12 economic sectors aimed at improving competitiveness and stimulating activity through streamlined regulations affecting electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and petroleum operations.
