Myanmar authorities have established legal safeguards for 2,560 acres of mangrove habitat on Masanpa Island through ministerial notification under the 2018 Forest Law. The conservation zone in Kyunsu Township will protect native vegetation such as Bruguiera species, Rhizophora mucronata, Ceriops decandra and Nypa fruticans while serving as a critical nesting territory for herons, egrets, kingfishers and wading birds.
Environmental officials aim to preserve marine nursery grounds for fish, crabs and prawns that support coastal populations. The protected forest will act as a natural shield against erosion and tropical storms while enabling sustainable resource harvesting by nearby communities.
