The Mummy Returns goes retro as the comedy film starts shooting

Tamil cinema just decided that nostalgia bait is the only way forward. Director Jai Amar Singh kicked off production for his comedy-drama called The Mummy Returns with a massive ceremony in Chennai. P J Kishore funds this project under Pepin de Raisin Productions, while actor Krishna takes the lead role. Filmmakers Vishnuvardhan and I. Ahmed showed up to wish them luck.

The plot sounds like a chaotic fever dream where a son tries to wake his mother from a coma. He reconstructs the nineteen-nineties to help her recover since that was her last memory. Friends help him fake the whole thing, which causes a huge mess. This concept aims for laughs while dealing with heavy emotional baggage.

Singh wants pure comedy because action movies are everywhere currently. He learned the ropes in London before working on Endrendrum Punnagai with Ahmed. The director insists viewers need a break from violence and crave simple humor instead. He promises this movie will be a total laugh riot despite the sad premise.

The supporting cast features Devadarshini alongside Swathi Muppala and Kinsley. Lollu Sabha Maaran joins Bjorn and Deepa to round out the group. Filming will happen over two schedules around Chennai. Sam C S handles music duties, while Manikandan Balaji cuts the footage, and Karthik Subramanian operates the camera.
