The U.S. has renewed support for Chad's digital overhaul

Turns out visa denials might tank a whole national tech overhaul. Chad's telecom minister Haliki Choua Mahamat flagged that U.S. visa refusals hitting Chadian technical staff could stall the country's planned digital projects. His counterpart, health minister Dr. Abdelmadjid Abderahim, pushed for fast rollout of everything discussed.

Both ministers plus Secretary of State for Telecom Ibangalo Manga Mavouna Abel sat down with William Flens, a U.S. Embassy business officer, in N'Djamena. Flens passed along State Department congrats after the delegation's Washington trip and handed out participation certificates.

That mission fell under Chad's 2020-2030 digital strategy and zeroed in on four things: digital infrastructure, satellite connectivity, cybersecurity, and digital health. American officials backed Chad's goals, which include pushing internet penetration from 30% to 80% and lifting the digital economy's GDP share from 1.9% to 10%.

On the health side, the group met InterSystems and 19Labs about electronic medical records and linking up facilities. Cybastion, meanwhile, offered to help audit, certify, and protect Chad's National Datacenter.
