Third Mainland Bridge rehab cost N43 billion, says Umahi

A minister just shut down wild claims about a massive bridge repair budget. Works Minister Dave Umahi stated the Third Mainland Bridge rehabilitation cost forty three billion naira. He clarified that a new surveillance center for the bridge was only two point five billion. Umahi specifically denied reports alleging the CCTV facility cost forty billion.

The project involved completely rehabilitating a long section of the dual carriageway. Work included rebuilding concrete, replacing expansion joints, and installing solar lighting. The monitoring center was part of the overall bridge contract from the beginning. Officials described meeting a bridge in terrible condition upon taking office.

The facility represents the first dedicated CCTV center for a Nigerian bridge. Equipment includes a surveillance boat and two Hilux vehicles for monitoring. It runs on two hundred forty solar panels with full air conditioning. The site also has ten inverters and a standby generator for power. A three hundred KVA transformer supports the entire operation.
