Thirteen army officers request virtual appearance in war crimes trial

Thirteen detained military officers have petitioned Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal seeking authorization to participate remotely rather than physically attending proceedings related to crimes against humanity allegations. Defense attorney Maidul Islam Polok filed the virtual appearance request with tribunal administrators as hearings progress on accusations that Taskforce Interrogation and Joint Interrogation Cell units conducted abductions, forced disappearances and torture during the prior administration.

The defendants span ranks from major general to lieutenant colonel, while deposed premier Sheikh Hasina appears among the named suspects. Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder leads the three-judge panel examining arrest warrant compliance reports and considering legal representation appointments for fugitive accused.

Authorities deployed police, Rapid Action Battalion and border security forces throughout court facilities, anticipating potential officer transport to proceedings.
