TikTok just pushed its ad network into the US and rolled out agent-style AI tools for brands. TikTok Ad Network, once called Pangle, makes the US its 48th market and lets advertisers move existing campaigns beyond TikTok into outside apps through Ads Manager.
The reach is huge. TikTok puts TTAN across close to 400,000 apps worldwide, with daily active use above 1 billion. Its internal US data says half of TTAN users do not use TikTok, which works out to an extra audience of 95 million.
Early performance data came out strong, at least by TikTok’s numbers. An internal Pangle test found automatic placement cut cost per acquisition by 65% and lifted return on ad spend by 63% versus campaigns using one placement.
Kantar’s marketer survey adds more context. TikTok ranked first for planned ad-spend growth for a fifth straight year, while 84% of marketers already run ads there. The study covered over 23,000 consumers in 33 markets and more than 800 senior marketers.
AI spending is moving fast as well. A net 75% of marketers said they expect bigger budgets for AI assistants, making that category the fastest-growing line in the study.
On shopping, Buy Direct lets eligible users complete purchases inside TikTok, even from the For You feed. Shopping Assistant handles product questions, delivery details, sizing, and stock through chat. Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe are working with TikTok on the commerce setup.
Agentic Leads takes the same idea into customer acquisition. The tool can interact with people through TikTok direct messages or lead forms hosted on advertiser websites. Access remains limited to brands that qualify for testing.
Developers get another piece through TikTok for Business Model Context Protocol. The connector can help AI agents plan campaigns, launch them, upload creative, manage activity, and inspect results. Claude, Kimi, Manus, Perplexity, Replit, Snowflake, Tencent WorkBuddy, and the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry support it.
Usage has jumped hard. TikTok says advertiser adoption of the MCP for campaign work rose by more than 200% across one recent three-month stretch.
Smart+ is moving into search ads, where AI can handle keywords and creative choices. Smart+ Creative Selection brings brand assets, creator material, and Symphony-made AI content into one approval flow.
TikTok Shop sellers get changes through GMV Max as well. Its automation can account for affiliate payouts, coupons, referral charges, and other costs when optimizing campaigns.
Buy Direct depends on Universal Commerce Protocol. Google developed that open standard with Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target, Walmart, and other partners, while YouTube Shopping has used UCP for checkout inside eligible ads.
The broader US setup matters here. TikTok USDS Joint Venture controls protected US user data, apps, and algorithm operations, while TikTok’s global business keeps certain commercial functions such as advertising, marketing, and e-commerce.
Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX each hold 15% of the joint venture. ByteDance keeps 19.9%.
TikTok’s ad business still carries regulatory baggage. South Korea’s privacy regulator fined TikTok KRW 10.3 billion, about $7 million, after finding improper collection of activity from outside apps and websites for ad targeting.
Financially, estimates put TikTok revenue at $23 billion, with roughly 77% coming from ads. ByteDance revenue was estimated at $155 billion, while a later share auction valued the parent company at $480 billion.
