Tinubu credits God, not grit, for presidency

President Bola Tinubu called his path to the office incredibly difficult. He made these comments during a national meeting of his party, the All Progressives Congress, in Abuja. Tinubu told attendees that both his campaign and the country faced major hurdles before the last election.

He pointed out the serious problems regular people dealt with back then, like not having enough food or fuel. The whole currency switch thing happened, too, making everything more chaotic. Tinubu stated he only made it because of perseverance and what he called divine guidance, claiming God placed him in his role.

His speech pushed for unity and patience from everyone. Tinubu warned that the country's democratic system needs constant protection from failure. He advised other leaders to avoid ruling with a heavy hand, suggesting compassion instead. The president wrapped up by repeating his belief that a higher power ultimately decides who gets to lead.
